Gero Onsen Gassho-mura is an important tourism facility that has recreated a rural settlement with 10 gassho-zukuri (thatched) houses, including the former Odo Residence, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. At the interactive Hida Workshop, you can try out a variety of hands-on activities, including painting ceramics, and Japanese papermaking.
Town walk
Gero Onsen is one of Japan’s three great hot spring towns, where you can enjoy not only bathing in the spring waters but also learning about the town’s sustainability initiatives. A guide can show you around town as you visit the hot spring museum, see the massive tanks that supply the town’s spring water, and try local sweets.
